see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil .
some see this expression as a positive exhortation to not look at bad things, don't listen to evil, and don't gossip.
other's see it more like three foolish monkeys who would not look, listen, or speak out against injustice.
This is create stuff!
I'm keeping every one of them. I believe that stories like this one is much better getting-a-person-out material than some "apostate" materiel which can be very difficult to get them to read.

for me it was when i was about twelve years old and my best friends dad was disfellowshipped from the congregation.. i could not understand how a god of love would treat someone so coldly.. i used to think what if that was the way my parents would treat me if i had done something wrong, that would be so hard and cruel.. as i got older another thing that bothered me was the beard issue.
it may sound pretty trivial however the society has always refused to make a good arguement as to why they would give you the old cold shoulder if you were to grow one.. two more items; first i could not understand why all the congregations and all the assemblys would give income reports.
and the society never did.
These a all very interesting stories.
I have 1 question though:
Some years ago I attended a talk where a ex-jw told the audience that he wasn't allowed to grow a beard. When I later asked my girlfriend (who I later married) she said: "Well I don't know what you are talking about. I have a brother with a beard"... And I became quite confused.
When and for how long was one not allowed to grow a beard? And what was the reason for that?

All though I have clear opinions about the WTBTS I haven’t told my wife or my family in law yet what I think of their religion.
Therefore they often talk about what’s going on in their con. without worrying about me hearing some of it.
This weekend I was told that one of the fellows from “our” con. had been stealing from his workplace and had been giving “a public”. (I’m not sure what its called in English - “a public” is translated directly from my native language, I hope you know what I mean. (A public warning..?).
It sounded to me that nobody actually knew what he had been stealing - and so people were guessing wildly.... “ He might have a drug problem that he needed the money for”...”perhaps he has a gambling problem”... Several jokes were said: “well - he has always been able to get some beers if a party was to be arranged” (he is (was?) working in a supermarket). Several figures were also mentioned.
They were also talking about a one-day trip that he had been arranged for a large group of the youngsters in the local and nearby con... “well - let’s hope they didn’t pay him in advance...”.
The first person who told me was my father-in-law - an elder, and the persons I heard joking about it was my wife’s two sisters husband - both elders.
When my wife “attacked” the person (another elder), that my father in law has heard the news from, for not keeping these private matters to himself - he said, “well, it’s always nice to know what’s going on in the con. so that we don’t hear it from others when we’re out on field service”
Last year I attended the summer convention with my family in law and similar gossip were an everyday subject. (I noted that a e.g. df’ed person quickly was made into a drug using troublemaker.
Personally I wouldn’t feel comfortable telling any elders anything if I knew they wouldn’t keep it to themselves.
No wonder people don’t want to get into trouble (judged be the elders) if they know they will be the subject of gossip for months.
I normally keep to myself what I hear about other people, especially when no one really now the exact facts. I’d rather contact the person and get the facts if he want to talk about it.
I would like to hear other peoples experiences regarding this subject.

hi i work with a smart, sexy, single jw who i get a along with great and over the years i've developed enormous affection for her.
based on this i don't want to do anything to hurt her.
i am not a witness and though i would like to pursue her romantically my sense is if she were to accept my overtures it could ruin her life since her family is very involved in witnessing and close association with one such as me could lead to reprimands for her.. my question is this.

I've been in the same situation as you, and is now married to a lovely JW woman.
I've shown my family in law that I'm not an "easy target" but have never spoken bad about their religion (when they were listening).
I have a great relationship with my wifes family. They are really sweet people. But this might have something to do with me beeing very flexible and attend a meeting every once in a while.
From what you've written, I understand that you too are willing to let this lady continue her religion, and that is in my oppinion a very wise disicion.
But be aware of the fact that your hidden agenda (potentially getting her out), will create secrets between you and her. And secrets are in my oppinion something to avoid on a relationship. I personally often think of "my secrets" when speaking to my wife and/or her familly, and really have to try hard not to let them now that "I now better".
On day I will present my wife with some of the stuff I've learned about the WTBTS - and everything might change. You will be kept up to date here - but it might not be in the near future.

As it clearly shows in the replies to this topic, sex - even thou it is very important to some people - is not necessarily what gets the marriage going.
Even thou two persons love each other and want to get married it’s no guarantee for that it will work out between them when the couple move in together.
Personally I think that people, in many cases, learn to live with each other’s differences. BUT! One cannot and should not live e.g. with an abusive spouse.
I believe that such serious problems would show if a couple was to live together before they married.
I remember an article from one of the WTBTS magazines where a young woman had married an older man, and now things weren’t all that perfect. She wanted to divorce him.
The article then told that the couple had been given counseling (from the elders) and that had made the woman decide not to divorce her husband.
My reply to this was “But is doesn’t say if she’s happy”. (I was at that time studying with my sister in laws husband). He agreed to that...

When I married my JW wife I was told that marriage was a VERY important thing.
I have, however, later learned that:
1) My sister-in-laws husbands JW brother got divorced because his JW wife fooled around.
2 - 3) 2 couples were divorced after we got married (2½ years ago). One of them had only been married for a couple of years. (In both cases one of them where fooling around with other(s)(!).
4) The male of one of our closest married-couples-friends was divorced a couple of years ago (just before we got married). Again - as I remember it - the other part was fooling around.
Note: Everybody mentioned here has not or just turned 30.
The official WTBTS opinion of marriage just doesn’t reflect reality does it?
It seems to me that the young JWs urge towards “other playgrounds” is greater than the urge for following the bible.
Not having been allowed to “test run” their spouse before it was too late, or "check out" other marriage material in that way makes them fool around.
It looks like some of them get quite disappointed, but what they got might not be that bad - they just doesn’t now that...
Or they might be sick and tired off getting told what not to do all their life that they eventually just have to break some rules?
I would like to hear other people’s opinion and/or experiences on this subject.

sure enough, within a minute or so, the hairs were growing on the back of his hands as the metamorphosis into the odious mr. hyde took effect.. so, im wondering, what exactly are the warning signs that signify that a normally pleasant human being is about to turn into that most wearisome of creatures, youve guessed it, the self-righteous condemning and critical jw?.
i ask because of the impending visit of my auntie lou.

Actually my wife did go into that "deprogrammed mmode or what ever".
We were watching a documentary about a org. here in Denmark. The org. run several schools here, and have aid projects going all over the world. The problem is that these projects are used to move money between accounts so they don't have to pay any taxes.
They, for example, have had a large number of clothe containes for people to but their old clothes in. These clothes was then to be sendt to e.g. Africa. The org. paid their travelling workers - or so the IRS thought. The mony was never given to the tw but just moved over to another acount in the org.
There was another story about a very large farm, (in Brazil - I think), where a small part of the workers sallary was used for insurance. But again the "insurance" money went straight down the org. pockets. Several people had been badly injured working on the farm, but since there was no insurance there lifes relied on what help they could get from e.g. the neighbours.
Oh my - I must get to the point.
As we were watching the telly, she started to defend the org.!!! I was very surprised, but then I thought it might have someting to do with her beeing a JW.
It's simply something she has been used to all her life!
This "evil system" just wants to destry "good" organizations like the WTBTS and should therefore not be trusted.
Whats your oppinion of this.
